Telangana leaders from Telugu Desam Party appear to be divided over contesting the by-elections in the region, which are most likely to be held in July.
The Election Commision is likely to issue the notification some time in June. Several Telangana TDP leaders like Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Kadiam Srihari have told party chief, CBN that they were not very keen on contesting the by-elections, since it would be nothing but waste of money and moreover, it might also send a wrong signal to the Telangana people that the party was against the separate statehood.
However, another section of Telangana TDP leaders like T Devender Goud, S Venugopala Chary, Aravind Kumar Goud and T Srinivasa Yadav, who are arguing that the party cadres would get demoralised, if it did not contest the elections. Since the Congress is anyway contesting the polls, we should also try our luck. Even if we get a couple of seats, it would be a moral victory for the party in the region, they argue.
CBN told them that a decision could be taken depending on the situation at the time of notification and after watching the Congress strategy.
