TRS chief, KCR has sharply reacted to PRP chief, Chiranjeevi’s bus yatra seeking national status to the Polavaram irrigation project. The TRS chief told reporters on May 6 2010 that Chiranjeevi was trying to mesmerise people, not knowing that he was betraying his ignorance of the issue relating to Polavaram.

If Chiranjeevi is committed to united Andhra Pradesh, how come he did not launch his bus yatra in Telangana seeking national status to the Pranahita – Chevella project, he wondered. KCR wanted to know how the central government could accord national status to the Polavaram project when two cases, one filed by the TRS and the other by Orissa and Chhattisgarh, were pending with the Supreme Court.

From the beginning his party had been opposed to the Polavaram project, he maintained and asserted that the TRS would never compromise on the issue. Replying to a question, KCR said that if Telangana was like Konaseema, how come 10,000 farmers committed suicide in the region and why 300 people would sacrifice their lives for formation of a separate state. By comparing Telangana with Konaseema, Chiranjeevi was ridiculing the demand for separate Telangana, KCR said.

The party set a target of admitting 5 lakh active and 30 lakh ordinary members into the party. Apart from these, the party decided to admit around 10 lakh students to TRSV, its student wing.
