Popular south Indian actor Khushboo is all set to join the ruling DMK. She will soon be calling on DMK chief, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi to enroll herself as a primary member of the party, sources close to her said. The actor has already held two rounds of discussions with DMK leaders and would have another round in a couple of days, they told media.

Khushboo had indicated her desire to take the plunge into politics soon after the Supreme Court recently quashed a slew of cases filed against her for her controversial remarks on pre-marital sex made in an interview in 2005.

“I am silently involved in lot of social work including in the areas of HIV/AIDS, transgenders and cancer. But being in politics gives a larger platform and to work better,” she said. She also said she would prefer Congress, a national party, to other parties.

Khushboo’s entry into DMK is likely to be a shot in the arm for the party ahead of the next year assembly polls as she has a large fan following in the state. Her fans had even built a temple for the actor in Permabalur District at the height of her career a few years ago.

Published reports also claim that Khushboo would be made a member of the state legislative council.
