Cupertino, California – October 13th, 2010 – Approximately one hundred Telanganites gathered to share a sumptuous dinner with Telangana JAC convenor, Prof. Kodandaram Garu, the eloquent and soft-spoken convener of Telangana Joint Action Committee. Bay Area Chapter of Telangana Development Forum (TDF) hosted the banquet dinner in a Cupertino restaurant on Wednesday evening. The event was conducted under the watchful eyes of Mr. Jagan Bearelly, Mr. Mahendra Reddy, Mr. Rajesh Vattipelli, Mr. Satish Chada, Mr. Sridhar Rudrashetty, Mr. Yugendhar Polasani, Mr. Venkat Kondapally and Mr. Murali Dugyala.

Prof. Kodandaram Garu briefly touched on all the reasons why we need separate Telangana. He talked about the lack of irrigation projects being the primary reason why Telangana lagged behind in the development. He said there was a lot of misrepresentation in the Andhra Media about the history of how Andhra Pradesh was formed. He lamented that most of Telangana people don’t know that Hyderabad was a separate state and that part of the Hyderabad State merged with Andhra for three reasons at the behest of the Andhra leaders. He stated that the Andhra leaders saw the potential of having a ready-made Capital, the need to control the untapped natural resources, and the un-impeded access to two of India’s major rivers (Godavari and Krishna) that flow through Telangana.

The unassuming professor quoted many examples of how the movement for separate Telangana was suppressed by the Andhra leaders and the Media. He stressed the importance of continuous fight for achieving the goal of having a separate Telangana irrespective of the report of Sri Krishna committee. He said that because the guidelines of the SKC committee (which the JAC did not approve) was about the future of Andhra Pradesh and not specifically to do with Telangana, we should not expect a report in favor of Telangana. Although he was cautiously optimistic about the outcome, he suggested that we should not rest until we achieve our goal.

After the speech he answered many questions from the audience patiently. To a query “How can we expect the development with same leaders?” He replied that there was a shift in the outlook of most political leaders and the voters themselves. The professor said that because of the increasing volunteerism, the voters are getting to know the history, the politics, and the need for solidarity in the movement. He pointed out that the Telangana leaders now are aware that they do not have much future if they are not vocal about Telangana. He predicted a bright future of Telangana with its abundant water resources, and mines.

There were questions from the audience about the movement, the future leadership, and the overdependence on the agrarian economy etc. Kodandaram garu encouraged the involvement and support of the Non-resident Telanganites but said that he was not here to raise any funds for the movement himself.

Despite it being a weekday the response was great. TDF Bay Area team appreciated Prof.Kodandaram for his relentless struggle for realizing the dream of separate Telangana and presented a memento. Mrs. Kodandaram and his talented children, Chetan and Maithri were also present at the dinner.
