The Congress party and the central government has started mulling ways for formation of Telangana state.

The latest step towards this is the appointment of senior advocate A Sudershan Reddy as the advocate general of the state. Sudershan Reddy, who hails from Karimnagar district, will be the first Telangana lawyer to rise to the highest post of Advocate General since the merger of Hyderabad state with Andhra in 1956. He succeeds DV Sitarama Murthy who resigned.

It has been the long-pending demand of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and other Telangana organizations that a Telanganite has to be made advocate general. Now with Sudershan Reddy in place, the Congress party has gone a step ahead towards the implementation of SKC recommendations.

Already, Telangana leader D Srinivas has been retained as PCC president for the third successive term and another Telangana leader would be made deputy chief minister. In this way, the Congress is going ahead in providing “constitutional guarantees” to the Telangana region as per the Srikrishna Committee recommendations.

According to the sources, by implementing some of the SKC recommendations for Telangana region, the central government is trying to bring down the intensity of T agitations at least for the time being to run the state and central governments peacefully for another few months or years before opting for the 5th option given by the Sri Krishna Committee, ‘the formation of separate state of Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital’.
