The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has attempted to lure the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convener, Mr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, by offering him the key post of party working president and important perches to his like-minded colleagues.

However, Mr Janardhan Reddy vehemently denied the reports and said he would continue to remain in TD while fighting for Telangana. TRS sources said the party president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was keen on bringing in the TD leader but the plan did not work out because of stiff resistance from some TRS senior leaders who were reportedly against giving key posts to new entrants.

Dr Janardhan Reddy had created a stir by setting up the forum comprising of TD MLAs from the region and later demanding a separate unit of the party in the region to ensure more freedom to take up Telangana cause.

He and a few other TD leaders had almost raised a banner of revolt which led to speculation he may quit the party sooner or later. “We would welcome Mr Janardhan Reddy into the TRS to fight for a separate state,” said Mr Niranjan Reddy, TRS politburo member. “He should not be a slave of Mr Chandrababu Naidu. If he still patronises Mr Naidu, Telangana people will not forgive him.”

KCR had earlier successfully lured the TD MLA and former minister, Mr Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, from Nizamabad district, creating shockwaves in the TD. Though more MLAs were expected to quit, Mr Naidu successfully contained dissidence. However, the TRS is still attracting local leaders and cadre of the TD in Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad and other districts. After Nirmal, several local TD leaders joined the TRS in the presence of KCR at Devarakadra in Mahbubnagar district in the past two days. This is all part of KCR’s game plan to strengthen the party especially in his constituency Mahbubnagar before launching an onslaught against the government in February.
