The protests against Racchabanda programme in Telangana region turned ’spicy’ with the agitators attacking cops and officials with chilli powder to prevent them from conducting Racchabanda.
Angry cops resorted to lathicharge to disperse the villagers at Surapalli in Bhongir mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday after the protestors threw chilli powder on them. Hundreds of villagers gathered on the road and shouted slogans against the officials saying that they don’t need Rachchabanda till a Bill on separate Telangana is introduced in Parliament. When the cops tried to cajole them, the villagers intensified their sloganeering.
Soon, they entered into a wordy duel. When the villagers threw chilli powder, the angry cops caned them. In Gambhiraopet, Yellareddypet and Mustabad areas of Sircilla mandal in Karimnagar, hundreds of women staged protests against Rachchabanda. “If officials insist on conducting the programme, we won’t hesitate to use the chilli powder,” warned a woman.
