Telangana threat looms over power water supply
News pulse, Politics | admin | February 11, 2011 at 6:13 amApprehending largescale disruption of work in the government offices from February 17 in view of the non-cooperation movement call given by the Telangana groups, the state on Wednesday issued a circular to various departments directing them to evolve a contingency plan.
Deputing employees from other regions is also under the consideration of the government. The state government took the issue seriously after the Telangana associations in the electricity, water supply and municipal administration departments too decided to join the strike. The state fears that work at the Road Transport Authority offices and GHMC would also get affected. The strike in the excise department can disrupt the supply of IMFL in the Telangana region.
The 25,000-strong power employees JAC is now planning to disrupt the electricity supply in and around Hyderabad to press their demand for the separate state. “We are meeting district committees and hold a relay fast on February 16 to prepare our colleagues for the final countdown. There are suggestions from our members to cut the power supply,” said K Raghu, convener of power employees T-JAC. Similarly, water supply and sewerage disposal can also be affected.
