Congress leaders from Telangana region today said they will oppose any move by the Centre to appoint a States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) if the separate Telangana demand is included in its purview.

“We want a bill introduced in Parliament for formation of separate Telangana without any delay. If there is any move to appoint a SRC, that includes Telangana, we will oppose it and try to get it reversed,” Congress Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar, Ponnam Prabhakar told reporters in Hyderabad.

He was responding to reports in a section of the media that said the Centre is considering constituting a SRC. The media reports cited a resolution being passed by Congress at a party meet in Varanasi recently.

“The resolution passed by the party was confined to Uttar Pradesh,” Prabhakar said.

Congress MLCs KR Amos and K Yadava Reddy also vowed to oppose any move to appoint SRC for Telangana.

The ruling party leaders from Telangana have already said they will “take part in the agitation for separate statehood if the Centre failed to take concrete action towards the formation of separate state.”
