Upset over the Speaker’s reluctance to consider their notice for no confidence motion, 90 TDP MLAs led by opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu met governor ESL Narsimhan on Saturday and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention.

Later talking to media, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said that he had urged the governor to reconvene the assembly for discussing the no confidence motion. Quoting rule 75 of the rules of procedure of the assembly, he said, it clearly says that notice for no confidence should be moved one hour before the commencement of the assembly and the notice should be handed over to the secretary of the assembly. The TDP had followed this and submitted the notice on Saturday morning to the assembly secretary.

He said the TDP had decided to serve the notice of no confidence since the state was ruled by the anti-farmer government which did not bother to take care of the problems of the people. The farmers had suffered a loss of Rs 3,000 crore, he said.

He said the election of the Speaker and deputy Speaker has proved that YS Jaganmohan Reddy has been making empty claims that the government was surviving at his mercy. If his group of MLAs had voted against the official candidate, the government would have fallen into minority, he said.

He alleged that the government was on the defensive and was running away from taking up no confidence motion. It is a moral victory for the TDP, he added.

Speaking to media after the Speaker’s election, chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said that he had proved his strength. “Our number would have gone up further if the 18 members who could not make it had also attended the house.”

Meanwhile, PRP member Shobha Nagi Reddy who is now in Jagan’s camp when asked why they decided to vote for the official candidate, said, “TDP had put up candidates as part of match fixing with the government to corner Jagan camp.”

In another related development, suspended TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy along with two other MLAs, K Hareeshwar Reddy and Jogi Ramanna gave a notice of no confidence on the council of ministers for going back on the formation of separate Telangana.
