Cong T leaders hail Botsa’s PCC chief
News pulse, Politics | admin | June 6, 2011 at 2:23 pmThe appointment of the transport minister, Mr Botsa Satyanarayana, as the new PCC chief has been hailed by several Telangana leaders. The Rajya Sabha member, Dr K. Kesava Rao, said that the appointment of Mr Satyanarayana, who is not against Telangana, was welcome and he hoped that a Telangana state would become a reality soon due to this development.
The former PCC chief, Mr V. Hanumantha Rao, however, reacted strongly over the appointment and said that it was strange that the party high command had chosen both the CM and PCC chief from the same region without following the time-tested tradition of two leaders being chosen from different regions. Mr Satyanarayana has never associated himself with other ministers and leaders who have been demanding a united AP and was not a part of any of the delegations that had met the Justice Srikrishna panel on the issue. In fact he had once asked what would be wrong in granting a Telangana state.
Mr Satyanarayana’s appointment is the next major appointment to north-coastal AP after 1992 when Mr Majji Tulasi Das was made PCC chief. Incidentally the region comprises over 65 per cent backward communities, the highest among all the three regions in state. Mr Satyanarayana, who belongs to the Turpu Kapu BC community, had stunned the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, when he was elected as chairman of the district Cooperative Central Bank for the first time after defeating a strong TD candidate in the polls.
He was later defeated twice when he contested as a Congress candidate from the Bobbili Lok Sabha seat but in 1999 he was elected to Lok Sabha from the same constituency. He was successfully elected twice from the Chipurupally Assembly segment, in 2004 and 2009.
