Prof. Jayashankar passed away

Professor Jayashankar, the brain behind the Telangana movement passed away at his Hanmakonda residence today June the 21 2011. He has fought for the Telangana movement for a long time. His dream was to seee the separate statehood of Telangana.

Prof. Jayashankar had has been suffering from cnaceer for along time, bt still he was an active Telangana movement participant. He went through a surgery as he was suffering from cancer. He also underwent chemotherapy at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad. He was moved to his residence in Hanamkonda as he was not responding to treatment.

Prof. Jayashankar was born on 6th August 1934. He has been the ideologue of Telangana movement and the TRS party. He has been fighting for a separate state since 1952. He was the former Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya University.

A native of Warangal district, Jayashankar had his early education in the town and later did his post-graduation and PhD in economics from Banaras Hindu University and Osmania University in Hyderabad.

Jayashankar worked as a lecturer in Warangal and rose to become the vice chancellor of Kakatiya University in Warangal. Jayashankar had been a strong advocate of separate Telangana since his youth and participated actively in the separate statehood agitation in 1969. It was Jayashankar who offered lime juice to the TRS president when the latter broke his famous fast for Telangana in December, 2009.

He passed away with an unfulfilled dream of the separate statehood of Telangana.
