PC, the Union Home Minister accused the RSS of being behind the anti-corruption campaign launched by Ramdev Baba, the yoga guru. Ramdev Babs was evicted by the Delhi Police from the Ramlila Ground in Delhi last week and was airlifted and barred him from entering Delhi for 15 days.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Chidambaram said the Government had taken note of the resolution passed by the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (of the RSS) on March 10-13, 2011 at Puttur, Karnataka.
He also said the RSS had announced the formation of an “Anti-Corruption Front” with Baba Ramdev as its patron and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ideologue K N Govindacharya as its convener.
He also referred to a decision taken by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP, on May 12, 2011 to float an organisation named “Youth Against Corruption” and to coordinate with Ramdev Baba.
Mr Chidambaram said Mr Suresh Joshi of the RSS had issued a circular on May 20, 2011 to all “swayamsevaks” to render all possible cooperation to Baba’s campaign. He said similar instructions were issued on May 28 by Mr Ashok Singhal of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to all its office-bearers.
Explaining the circumstances in which the police acted against Baba Ramdev and his supporters, Mr Chidambaram said that a decision had been taken that the yoga guru would not be allowed to organise any protest or undertake any fast-unto-death at Ramlila Ground and that, if he persisted in his efforts to do so, he would be directed to remove himself from Delhi.
Mr Chidambaram said that, however, Baba Ramdev had, in the rup-up to June 1, at several meetings, announced that he would undertake a fast-unto-death beginning June 4.
