T JAC set deadline for center

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) has fixed June end as the new deadline for the Centre to make its stand clear. According to JAC leaders, if the government fails to make any announcement by the month-end, it would launch the third phase of agitation from July 1.

JAC said it’s decision was based on the fact that monsoon would be active over the region and the new academic year for the students would begin. It would also be the time for farmers to take up agricultural operations. Therefore, the agitation in the month would not evoke desired response.

A JAC leader told that they had received several representations from the parents of students urging them not to take up agitations during this month. Last year, many students faced bitter experiences as they could not apply for seats in educational institutions when the transport services were paralysed across the region.

The leader said that some private colleges, particularly from Telangana, had approached the JAC saying June was a crucial month for them. Any agitation now would adversely affect admissions to their institutions, they said.

The JAC also claims they had decided to postpone the agitation to July since it was the time for farmers to start kharif agricultural operations and hence it would not be possible to involve them in the movement. In Telangana region, about 60% of the people depend on agriculture and allied activities.

The JAC leaders said the committee will only organise small agitational programmes and dharnas against TDP and Congress leaders in June.
