Azad continues talks on Telangana

As Congress general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad continued his parleys with the party leaders from Telangana to break the deadlock on the Telangana issue, the Congress core group met here on Friday and directed Mr. Azad to continue the talks.

Mr. Azad, who is also the Union Health Minister, briefed the Congress leadership about the points raised by the Seemandhra and the Telangana leaders and made some suggestions to bring back peace in the State. The issue relating to mass resignation of Congress legislators from the Telangana region was also discussed.

Besides Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party seniors Pranab Mukherjee, Ahmed Patel and P. Chidambaram attended the meeting that also discussed the developments relating to Lok Ayuktha indicting Karnataka BJP Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the land scam and illegal mining of iron ore issues.

Peddapally Congress Lok Sabha member G. Vivekanand, who attended the meeting on Telangana, said Mr. Azad asked them to come in a small group and also give their views in writing.

No going back: MP

The Telangana leaders made it clear that there was no going back on the separate State demand and parting away Hyderabad either to Andhra Pradesh or accepting it to be made as a Union Territory. The consultation would continue on Monday, he said.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Bhavan Employees Welfare Association president P. Kiran Kumar has urged the Delhi police to take early action on their complaint relating to assault of Bhavan’s Officer on Special Duty Chander Rao by TRS MLA T. Harish Rao and three others on Thursday.

He wondered why there was so much delay in taking action against the accused. Meanwhile, employees of the Bhavan staged a dharna on Friday protesting the attack and seeking justice to Mr. Chander Rao. They also presented a memorandum to Resident Commissioner Rajat Bharghava seeking protection and safety to them.
