Cong T MLAs in a big dilemma

In all likelihood, the Telangana Congress MLAs might wait till Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar takes a decision on the resignations of the MPs from the region before deciding on resigning afresh.
According to sources, many of them are averse to resign again because the Congress leadership has told them in clear terms that they would be doing so at their own risk. The Lok Sabha Speaker and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha might take a decision on the resignations of the Telangana MPs after the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Aug 1.

Many MLAs believe that the MPs’ resignations too will be rejected just as Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar has rejected theirs. In such an event, both the MLAs and MPs might sit together and decide their next course of action. In the meantime, the Telangana Congress MLAs are under pressure from the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has come out now after maintaining a low profile for some time, to turn up the heat on them. Though his call to them to resign sounded more like a suggestion, the Telangana Congress MLAs know what kind of impact it would have on the people of the region.

The MLAs, who had ventured into their constituencies immediately after resigning, are now staying put in Hyderabad for fear of a backlash. Said one Congress MLA: “We are waiting to know the fate of the resignations of the MPs. If their resignations are rejected like ours, there is no way out.”
