It’s the turn of SA ministers to go to Delhi
News pulse, Politics | admin | July 17, 2011 at 6:30 pmAdministration in the State is set to be hit hard with Ministers from Seemandhra planning to stay put in New Delhi for a few days from Monday as part of their efforts to mount pressure on the Centre to keep the State united.
Already about a dozen Ministers from Telangana have stopped attending their duties since the first week after submitting their resignations in support of statehood for the region. In spite of persuasion by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, the Ministers remained firm on not attending their official work till a decision was taken on the statehood issue. Even as Telangana Congress leaders planned to intensify the agitation, a majority of the 21 Ministers from Seemandhra have decided to visit New Delhi to convince the party leadership against taking any decision on bifurcation. They are likely to stay in the capital till they secure appointments with key functionaries in the Union Government, apart from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Several Seemandhra Congress leaders, including Ministers left for New Delhi on Sunday morning in support of their “united State” demand, while some others are likely to leave for the capital on Monday. The leaders are expected to meet at MP K.S. Rao’s residence to fine-tune the issues to be presented before the leadership.
They are likely to meet AICC State affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior leader Pranab Mukherjee on Monday followed by meetings with P. Chidambaram and the Prime Minister over the next two days.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, School Education Minister S. Sailajanath said the Seemandhra leaders would demand implementation of the sixth recommendation of the Srikrishna Committee report.
