Meira Kumar may reject MPs resignations
News pulse, Politics | admin | July 11, 2011 at 3:00 pmLok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is all set to reject the resignations of the Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Telugu Desam Party tendered in support of a separate Telangana state on technical grounds, sources close to her said. These MPs will have to meet the Speaker individually if they want their resignations accepted, as resignations submitted in group are not valid, the sources said. The legal wing of the Lok Sabha has submitted to the Speaker half a dozen precedents of 1970s and 1980s when the mass resignations were turned down by the then Speakers. Meira Kumar is studying these precedents, the sources said.
Interestingly, none of the resigning MPs have mentioned in the resignation letters that they are tendering resignation from the House in support of creation of Telangana.
