The strike has been called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) to force the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre to begin the process of dividing the state by introducing a bill in the coming Monsoon session of Parliament.

According to reports, students at Osmania University pelted stones at policemen deployed on the campus on Wednesday. The cops, in turn, burst tear gas to control the mob.

Tension prevailed at the Osmania on Tuesday as well with students protesting additional police security on the campus.

Meanwhile, normal life across Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts were disrupted even on Wednesday.

Offices, banks and all financial activities were affected due to the bandh.

Most of the schools and colleges in the region are closed while few buses plied since the morning of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday ruled out imposition of President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh where a crisis is brewing over the mass resignations of state legislators and MPs from the region in demand of a separate Telangana state.

“There is no move to impose President’s Rule,” Chidambaram said at a media briefing in New Delhi.

Chidambaram said the union government is talking to the MPs who resigned also.

He said he is unhappy with the resignations and the government will engage them in a consultation process.

After the Congress MPs, two Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs on Tuesday filed their resignation before Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in New Delhi over demand for a separate Telangana state.

Tendering their resignation, TDP Parliamentary Party leader Nama Nageswara Rao and Ramesh Rathod blamed Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for the ongoing crisis.

“Chidambaram is totally responsible for this situation. He has confused everyone and the current situation is entirely his creation,” Rao told reporters.

Earlier, at least ten Congress parliamentarians, who resigned over demand for a separate Telangana state, met senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and requested him for an early decision by the central government on the issue.

Three ministers-K Jana Reddy, Ponnala Laxmaiah and Basavaraj Saraiah, two MPs-Madhu Goud Yashki and Ponnam Prabhakar, one MLA and one MLC were summoned by the Congress High Command from Hyderabad seeking explanation for their resignation.

The Telangana lawmakers met Union Health Minister and said resignation was the ‘right’ way to protest and that only a separate state can fulfill their aspirations.

Azad reportedly told them to wait till the Centre takes a final call on the issue.
