Students throw stones at policemen near burning tires during the two-day strike demanding the creation of Telangana state, at Osmania University. The Osmania University Joint Action Committee has set July 10 as deadline for the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre to announce the formation of the Telangana state.

During a meeting with the prime minister and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Telangana leaders said that they wanted the consultation process to commence soon. Although the union government accepted the demand, they have not specified a time frame for the same. This in turn has angered Telangana leaders.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, the Telegu Desam Party staged a protest outside the assembly demanding that all the resignations be accepted with immediate effect. Resignations have not been accepted because the deputy speaker, who hails from the Telangana region, has left this matter to the speaker who is out of the country.

The speaker who was scheduled to return on Tuesday has now delayed his return to July 12 thus raising suspicion. The leaders are now demanding that the deputy speaker either accept their resignations or quit since he too is from Telangana.
