The Telugu Desam Party is upset with its leaders from Telangana region for seeking to join hands with Congress in the fight for a separate state, party sources said on Tuesday.

TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly expressed his displeasure over the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum (TTDF) leaders’ visit to Panchayat Raj Minister and Telangana Congress steering committee leader K. Jana Reddy’s residence on Tuesday morning and gave an earful to his party colleagues. “It is the Congress that should decide on Telangana but it is silent. What do you have to do with that party’s leaders,” an infuriated Mr. Chandrababu reportedly questioned his Telangana colleagues upon his return from Tirupati.

Led by their convenor Errabilli Dayakar Rao, the TTDF leaders went to Mr. Jana Reddy’s house with a request that all Congress legislators quit their posts and launch an agitation for a separate state under a common umbrella. “We too are ready to resign from our posts and let us all set aside our party affiliations and work with the single agenda of securing statehood for Telangana. If need be, we will fight elections under a common symbol,” the TTDF leader suggested to the senior Congress leader.

They argued that Telangana would not become a reality unless a political crisis was created through resignations. Emerging out of the meeting, Dayakar Rao claimed that Mr. Jana Reddy agreed to their suggestion for a joint struggle and said even Telangana Rashtra Samiti and other parties too would be roped in.

“We will soon organise a round-table conference with all parties to carry out a united struggle,” Mr. Dayakar added. However, the TDP high command is not in a mood to let its Telangana leaders join hands with Congress or TRS as the two parties are seeking to portray TDP in bad light on the statehood issue.

Mr. Chandrababu is, however, not averse to his Telangana colleagues taking up agitation programmes independently that will help the party re-establish its base in the region, a senior TDP leader pointed out.
