Expressing confidence that the Centre will take a decision on the separate Telangana statehood demand as per the Constitutional norms and end the uncertainty in the state, Assembly Deputy Speaker Mallu Batti Vikramarka on Tuesday called upon political parties not to use the Telangana state issue to obtain mileage.

Talking to reporters at Gokinepalle in Mudikonda mandal in Khammam district, the Deputy Speaker appealed to political party leaders not to make inflammatory statements, thereby provoking the people and disturbing the law and order situation.

Mr Vikramarka said that the government has proposed to construct a dam on Munneru at Padregupalli with an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of Chintakani and Mudikonda mandals in Khammam district.

He added that the government has also taken up a survey on 199 water lakes in Madira constituency. After submission of survey report, the government will take a decision protecting such water bodies by constructing bunds, the Deputy Speaker said.

Mr Vikramarka also reminded the government has taken up modernization of Nagarjuna Sagar project and canals with an estimated cost of Rs 4,400 crore
