With his fast entering its ninth day today, social activist Anna Hazare said that the government’s intention to curb corruption is not clear or sincere. Addressing a gathering at Ramlila ground, Hazare said: “Yesterday, three members from our side me the government. But even today their (govt) intention to curb corruption is not clear.”

“From top to bottom everyone should come under Jan Lokpal. We also need to appoint a Lokayukta in all states.” Commenting about his health, Hazare said: “There is an atmosphere of sacrifice in the country. I have been fasting for ninth days but I am fine I have lost only six kilos. There’’s nothing to worry about. You are keeping me strong.”

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, a close aide of Hazare, said that if the government was serious in bringing about an effective Lokpal Bil, it could be done within 24 hours. “It (formulation of the Ombudsman Bill) can be done in 24 hours. There is no problem, I have worked in the government, it is a very simple law. It is a very small law. So, we will see what kind of written commitment is given by the government and let us also talk to Anna ji (Anna Hazare),” said Kejriwal. Kejriwal affirmed that the government had agreed to bring the Judicial Accountability bill along with the Jan Lokpal as demanded by the civil society team.

“The judiciary is not being kept out. There should be a comprehensive anti-corruption system whether it comes from one law or two in an effective and independent system. The judicial accountability bill will also be brought along with the Ombudsman Bill. We will discuss this matter today,” he said.

Kejriwal also informed that the government was prepared to yield to the key demand of including the Prime Minister in the Lokpal Bill’’s ambit, though sticking points remained on other issues.
