AICC sources are claiming that YS Jaganmohan Reddy has come to begging terms with the party leadership, in view of the CBI investigation into his assets. They are narrating an incident as evidence to this claim.
The AP High Court has directed the CBI some time ago to give a primary report into Jagan’s properties, investments in his companies and the reasons for such investments. Senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi has filed a petition challenging the high court order, in the Supreme Court. The Apex court which dismissed Jagan’s petition has clarified that there were no irregularities in the investigation. The court also gave a shock to Jagan by stating that if his innocence was proved, it would in fact do him good.
Jagan has in fact tried to get the petition filed in the Supreme Court bysenior advocate and AICC official spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi. However, Singhvi has declined to argue the case, as Jagan was fighting with the Congress High Command and Ms. Sonia Gandhi, say Congress sources. Some say that it was Jagan’s strategy that he could have come to terms with the Congress, if Singhvi argued his case.
Why Jagan chose Singhvi?
Singhvi has reputation as a good lawyer who is capable of taking up complex cases in the Supreme Court. Jagan might have felt that if Singhvi accepts his case, he would be out of the woods.
How did he imagine that Singhvi will accept?
Singhvi has argued on behalf of the lottery mafia in Kerala earlier, when the Congress party was fighting with it tooth and nail. Singhvi has defended himself by stating that it was not wrong for him to argue the case as a lawyer. He has however withdrawn from the case at the behest of the party leadership later.
Jagan might have expected Singhvi to accept his case as he had accepted the lottery mafia case. However, Singhvi who knew the thinking of the Congress High Command, declined to take up Jagan’s case.
Jagan dissatisfied
Jagan is reported to be disappointed at the way his lawyers have handled his case. He is believed to have felt that the situation would not have come this far, if only his lawyers had argued the case well. It is being said that Jagan was mentally worked up as he was of the view that if his lawyers had filed petitions in time, the FIR and the searches would not have taken place. He is believed to be of the view that if Singhvi took up his case, he would not have been facing the mess he is in now.
