Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Tuesday slapped privilege and contempt notices against suspended Telangana Telugu Desam Party legislators Nagam Janardhan Reddy and K Hareeswar Reddy in response to a missing complaint lodged with the police against him following his absence from the city for the last few weeks.
“How can anybody file a missing complaint when I was on an official tour along with the Lok Sabha Speaker and several other dignitaries,” Manohar is learnt to have stated in his notice. While the notice of privilege motion was issued with regard to the office of the speaker, the contempt notice pertained to the assembly. The two of them were given a week’s time to reply to the notices.
“If Nagam and Hareeshwar do not give a convincing reply, they will face action that could include their losing House membership,” said sources. When K Suresh Reddy was the Speaker, TDP member Karanam B Murthy was suspended for six months for casting aspersions on the Chair.
