PC’s remarks on Telangana unconvincing – KK

Chidambaram had on Monday said that the Centre wanted to be absolutely sure that there is a consensus on the issue of deletion of a particular clause of a 1975 Presidential Order which makes Hyderabad a free zone for employment in police, whose repeal will ensure that residents of Telangana get preference in employment there.

Rao, who has resigned as Rajya Sabha member on the Telangana statehood demand, wondered why Chidambaram was “stoking another controversy” by demanding a new resolution from the Assembly on the issue.

“I fail to understand the logic behind Mr Chidambaram’s statement that there should be a new resolution. It is uncovincing. Why does he want a new resolution?” Rao said in a statement.

He said the Assembly resolution can be the basis for the decision and there is no need for a fresh resolution. “There is no place for such a thing in reality or democracy,” he said. Rao also criticised the consultation process by Congress on Telangana issue, saying it has not yielded any results for the past 7 years.
