Telangana Telugu Desam MLAs are trying to woo the Congress on the Telangana issue, in a bid to be one-up on the Telangana Rashtra Samiti. But TD Telangana leaders, who tried to gain political mileage from the Telangana issue, were put to the test by Telangana Congress leader and panchayat raj minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy. Mr Jana Reddy and the MP Mr G. Sukender Reddy, reportedly asked Telangana TD MLAs to request the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, to write a letter to Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, supporting Telangana, since the role of the Congress and the TD was crucial for a decision.
In a surprise move, the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convener, Mr E. Dayakar, Mr M. Narasim-hulu and other TD MLAs called on Mr Jana Reddy and requested him to fix a date before September 5 for joint submission of resignations to the Speaker. TD MLAs suggested en masse resignations by all Telangana MLAs to pressurise the Centre, and advocated the formation of Oikya Vedika of leaders of all political parties to head the Telangana movement. Mr Jana Reddy reportedly informed the TD delegation that they would wait till September-end for the party high command to take a decision on Telangana and to discuss the TD proposal in the steering committee. He said he would not hesitate to quit the Congress and his ministership for Telangana and sought the support of TD MLAs.
However, sources said Mr Naidu, was displeased over TD MLAs calling on the Congress minister and reportedly admonished them for doing so. “All parties fighting for a separate Telangana should come on one platform and fight under one symbol. We have requested Mr Jana Reddy to organise a round table conference for this,” Mr Dayakar Rao disclosed. TD MLAs were furious over TJAC convener, Prof. Kodandaram’s statement asking people to garland with slippers photos of MLAs who don’t resign and demanded an immediate withdrawal of his statement.
