The bandh in Telangana which was proposed to be organised last week by students’ JAC with the support of the TRS has now been scheduled for August 10.

The students JAC chairman, Pidamarthi Ravi, said the bandh was being organised to demand scrapping of Clause 14 (f) of Presidential Order to pave way for declaration of Hyderabad as a non-free zone for the purpose of services. If the government did not take steps even after the bandh, the JAC would organise ‘Chalo BHEL’ on August 13 and 14 to obstruct the written exam for recruitment of sub-inspectors of police in BHEL township.

The JAC had actually called the bandh on August 5 but was postponed as it happened to be the first Friday of the holy month of Ramzan. The organisation then contemplated having the bandh on August 8 (Monday) which was also dropped due to lack of preparation. After a meeting of the steering committee of the panel on Sunday, it was finally decided to go ahead with the bandh on August 10 when no other programmes by Telangana organisations were scheduled. The JAC would review the situation next day and plan out ‘Chalo BHEL’ effectively, Mr. Ravi said. The political JAC chairman M. Kodandaram welcomed the decision of the students to organise the bandh on Wednesday.
