Andhra Jyothi Telugu newspaper published a report stating that Devender Goud was blackmailed by late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and this was the reason why he had to leave the TDP.

The report stated that Mr Goud had tried to set up a hardware park at a place where his relatives had lands. For this, he had interfered in the affairs of the Industries department, the report stated. Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had ordered a CBI inquiry after becoming chief minister and included Mr Goud s name in the investigation. The report also stated that YSR had pressurized Mr Goud to leave the TDP. The Congress government gave a clean chit to Mr Goud after he left the TDP, the report added.

The Andhra Jyothi report also stated that Mr Goud called a meeting of the APIIC officials though he was Revenue Minister and instructed them to procure 5,000 acres of land south of Raviryala and north of Tukkuguda to benefit his relatives.

The report has alleged that Mr Goud and his relatives had 15 acres of land at these places. They also had 274 acres of land at a distance of 4 km from there, and Mr Goud tried to get the value of these lands enhanced by ordering land acquisition, the report added. The YSR government had not only ignored the CBI report, but also extricated him from the cases, the report has said.
