The Congress finally woke up to the Telangana crisis on Friday as the agitation in the region entered the 18th day. A day after Finance Minister and senior leader Pranab Mukherjee held discussions with Congress MPs over the issue, Andhra Pradesh in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad submitted a report on the crisis to party president Sonia Gandhi on Friday.
Sonia will take the final call on the issue after being briefed by Azad and Mukherjee on the issue.
The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) earlier demanded a stand on the issue by the Congress. The party leadership has so far been mum on the agitation.
The JAC has called for a shut down in Hyderabad on Friday as part of its protest programmes to mount pressure on the Centre to accept the separate statehood demand.
Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao is slated to arrive in New Delhi on Friday.
Rao will seek an appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil over the weekend.
