Seemandhra Congress leaders on Monday urged Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC general secretary, in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs, not to take any hasty decision on dividing the state fearing the general strikes and resignation threats by Telangana leaders. In the two-hour long meeting held in New Delhi, which is the second meeting for Seemandhra leaders,

the team has argued Azad to keep the state intact. “Only the criteria that led to the creation of the state of Andhra Pradesh should be the bottom line for creating any new state in India now also,” Eluru MP Rayapati Sambaisva Rao told media after the meeting. He said today’s meeting was the last and there would be no meetings in future on the issue.

“As all the relevant material had already been submitted and our argument was presented with the help of 86 slides, this time we have simply asked Azad to find out a solution to the problem as early as possible,” Rao said.

Any delay would cripple the development of the state, he said. Apart from Rao, the meeting was attended among others by T G Venkatesh, S Sailajanath, Galla Aruna Kumari (ministers), C Ramachanraiah, Gade Venkata Reddy, Md Jani, all legislators. Rao did not answer when asked about what if the decision goes against the demand of Seemandhra leaders.

Minor irrigation minister T G Venkatesh said Congress which brought Telugu speaking people together in the form of Andhra Pradesh should not become party to divide the same people.

He urged Azad not to accept either the sentiment or backwardness as the basis for creation of a separate state. tnn “Compared to the parts of erstwhile Nizam kingdom that have gone to Karnataka and Maharashtra, Telanagna is far developed,” he said asking the AICC leader “is the centre ready for creating smaller states for all the backward regions?”

Seemandhra leaders warned the party high command that creating Telangana would open flood gates for demands for smaller states from every corner of Indian.
