The pro-Telangana agitation turned ugly on Monday in the state capital, with T-Congress leaders targetting the Chief Minister, senior officials being manhandled and forced to rescind notices issues to striking employees, and a state minister being arrested. Police arrested infrastructure minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, MPs S. Rajaiah and Ponnam Prabhakar and former minister J. Krishna Rao, all from the Congress, for squatting on the road along with hundreds of electricity department employees from Telangana near Vidyut Soudha.
TRS leader K.T. Rama Rao was also among those arrested. They were released later in the evening. Traffic went haywire as the agitation on the busy Khairatabad-Panjagutta road went on for more than an hour with the Telangana leaders demanding uninterrupted power supply to farmers in the region. Earlier, Mr Venkat Reddy, the only minister who has been staying away from his duties since submitting his resignation, laid siege to the Chief Minister’s Office in the Secretariat for more than two hours.
The Telangana leader joined the protest programme of the Telangana employees at the Secretariat who joined the general strike from Monday. It is a shame to work in a Cabinet headed by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy who is a stumbling block in the creation of the separate state,” Mr Venkata Reddy alleged.
