Demanding immediate release of the students of Kakatiya University from detention, thousands of students marched to all the police stations in the entire Warangal district on Thursday and staged dharnas.

In Waranal town, the Subedari Police Station personnel have thwarted the attempts of the students to lay a siege to the district police headquarters. As the situation turned tense, the Rapid Action Force personnel were deployed at each police station.

It may be mentioned here that on Wednesday night, a large number of Kakatiya University students barged into the house of the IT Minister, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, demanding him to resign for the cause of Telangana and destroyed a photo of the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi. On receipt of the information, the Subedari police rushed to the spot and took the students into custody and detained them in various police stations. Enraged over the police action, the students marched to the police stations on Thursday morning and attempted to storm them. They also raised slogans against the police asking why the students were kept in other police stations.

The court also censured the police for lodging the agitating students in various police stations instead of keeping them in the local police station. In the early hours of Thursday, some unidentified people torched a private bus on the Bhadrakali Road. On being informed, the Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. However, the bus was destroyed partially by the time the Fire tenders rushed to the spot.
