L Rajagopal and Cong T face-off
News pulse, Politics | admin | September 27, 2011 at 2:38 pmMinister from Telangana region Komatireddy Venkata Reddy was quick to respond by saying that Lagadapati’s comments were uncalled for, while some Telangana Congress MPs warned of dire consequences if he continued to provoke the people of the region. Timely action by the police averted a highly-emotional and ugly spat at the RTA office between Lagadapati and Telangana leaders, who were arrested and shifted to different police stations in the city.
Earlier in the day, Telangana activists pelted stones and attacked half-a-dozen buses transporting secretariat employees near NGO’s colony. Meanwhile, adequate forces have been deployed across the city in the wake of Telangana joint action committee’s call for a rasta roko on Wednesday. Police commissioner AK Khan said Section 144 has been imposed in the city till October 4 in view of the people’s strike.
Condemning the high-handedness of police personnel at the RTA, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao demanded the suspension of west zone DCP Stephen Ravindra for directing his team to physically abuse TNGO president and Telangana JAC convener Swami Goud and TRS MLA T Harish Rao. He said they would petition the SHRC against the alleged murderous attack on Goud, who is under observation at a corporate hospital.
“The police targeted Goud for leading the employees’ agitation and assaulted him during the standoff at the RTA. They tried to kill him by inflicting internal injuries to his vital organs, including kidneys,” he alleged.
