No signs of fatigue on day 14 of ‘Samme’

Employees continued the general strike continued for the 14th day in Telangana districts with the same vigour and strength. Women members of Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) and employees from the private sector also participated in the strike in large numbers on Monday.

Doctors and medical employees boycotted their work for the fifth day in a row, and staged dharnas near Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). They also organised a rally before taking part in dharna. Dr Vinay and other leaders addressed the meeting held on the occasion.

The Telangana activists obstructed work at the Central Warehousing Corporation office in the town. After asking the staff to leave, they locked the entrance to the Corporation. They also turned their ire at the Telangana Congress leaders who, they said, were staying away in Hyderabad and ignoring the interests of the people of the region.

Munnurukapu Sangham members, physically challenged persons, IKP members, various government employees and the villagers of Bhoraj took out rallies in support of the separate statehood demand. They organised folk programmes and other cultural activities, condemning the Centre and the State Governments.

On learning that the District Collector was holding a meeting at the Grievance Cell in the Collectorate, the T activists barged into the room. At their insistence, all the officials except the Collector came out of the room in support of the strike.

Pacified, the activists left the place. Employees’ JAC district chairman Rajeswara Reddy led the activists. Later, they staged dharna near Boath MLA Nagesh’s house. However, as the MLA was not in the house.

On the eighth day of the RTC strike, over 3,270 employees boycotted their work at six depots and did not allow 595 buses out of the depots. RTC JAC leader Ramesh and others addressed a dharna meeting. The RTC strike was also continued in Manchiryal, Nirmal, Asifabad and other towns.
Karimnagar: Various sections of government employees participated in the strike in the district on Monday. People belonging to different communities took out rallies on the main roads in the town.

Members of Telangana Brahmana Seva Samiti conducted Ganapati homam at the District Collectorate for the success of the agitation and for the achievement of separate State. Homams were conducted at other places in the town and rural areas.

Telangana activists burnt the effigy of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Telangana Chowk. Members of Viswabrahmin community, washermen and owners of photo copy centres took out rallies in support of strike. Archakas and other employees of temples locked the temples at Metpalli town .

Purohits Balakrishna Sarma and Sanjay Sarma said that the Centre should announce Telangana before November 14. Or else, more unrest and violence would happen in the State, they said.

Nizamabad: On the 14th day of the strike, employees from various departments conducted dharna near the Collectorate.

Managements of private educational institutions and students, too, took part in the strike. RTC women conductors and other employees played Bathukamma at the bus stand in the town The RTC management claimed that it had lost about Rs 3.5 crore due to the strike..

Khammam: The members of IKP, DWACRA and other women organizations participated in the strike in large numbers on Monday. They took out rallies from Mayuri Centre which passed through ZP Centre and culminated in a public meeting at the Collectorate.

They also organised ‘rasta rokos’ and formed a human chain in the town. Meanwhile, the LIC agents announced their support to the strike and took out a rally. As the two-day ‘rail roko’ programme ended on Sunday, trains were allowed to pass through the town.

The auto-rickshaw drivers also resumed work on Monday. A majority of Singareni workers did not attend their duties in support of Telangana movement. Power generation in the state has come down significantly due to the miners’strike.
