Seemandhra Forum convener and Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath on Thursday raised doubts that the proposal of merger of Anantapur and Kurnool into Telangana was mooted by the Centre.

Talking to reporters, Sailajanath rubbished the statement of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on this issue and said that he would not believe that such a proposal was made by Centre to resolve the Telangana crisis. Stating that KCR repeated such statement frequently, he described Centre’s proposition of merging Kurnool and Anantapur districts in Rayala Telangana as ‘imaginary’.

However, the Minister said that Seemandhra leaders, especially those hailing from Rayalaseema were against Kurnool and Anantapur’s merger with the Telangana. When the reporters asked if the Centre comes out with this proposal, Sailajanath said the Seemandhra leaders would mount pressure on the Centre opposing the division of state. He expressed confidence that the Centre would not divide the State.
