The entire state administration remained paralyzed completely on account of the ongoing indefinite strike by about 400,000 state government employees in support of the formation of the separate Telangana state.

Civic services in 10 districts of Telangana were disrupted on account of the workers keeping away from work.

The so called “people’s strike” that was called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee did not have much impact. On the other hand, it was total in districts such as like Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad as well as Adilabad.

Work as far as the Secretariat was concerned was not affected as most people attended to their respective duties. No doubt, the leaders of the region claim that the only 15 % of the workforce were from the Telangana region. Other offices in the State capital also were not affected much.

The strike did cause some tensions as some staff members were not willing to join the strike. At the office of district collector of Hyderabad, the supporters of the ongoing strike had heated arguments with those who did not want to participate. In Khammam, at the office of the district collector, the supporters of the strike ransacked the joint collector’s office while he was attending to his work.

The JAC President Swamy Goud said the strike was total. Officials also said that if the strike at the Singareni Colliers continues then there could be a major power crisis in the state.
