The Secretariat employees, belonging to the Telangana region, on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the Secretariat raising slogans demanding formation of separate Telangana State immediately. The protestors shouted “aur ek dakka … Telangana pucca”, “Esma, Gisma Jantha Nahin, Telangana hona” and “Jai Telangana”.
Speaking at the dharna, the Convener of Secretariat wing of Telangana Employees’ JAC, Mr Suresh said they are not afraid of arm-twisting methods of the State government and would not end their agitation until the Centre announced formation of separate Telangana State. Complaining that the government was trying to terrorise the employees and the people with its warnings, he said the government should respect the sentiment of the Telangana people, otherwise, they would teach a lesson. The Telangana people have been facing injustice in all sectors since formation of Andhra Pradesh, he regretted.
Stating that Telangana employees constituted only 20 per cent in the Secretariat, Mr Suresh said as per Gentlemen’s Agreement, 42 per cent of total employees should be from the Telangana region. More over, even among the 20 per cent Telangana employees, most of them were Class IV employees, he added.
The Union leaders, Mr Rajababu and Mr Janardhan, were also present.
