Telangana protests continue, leader arrested

As the mass strike in Telangana region continued on the fourth day on Friday, crippling public services and administration functions.
The situation became more volatile as the police arrested Swami Goud, the chairman of the Joint Action committee of Telangana government employees.
Goud was arrested when he was coming out of Gandhi Hospital after participating in the meeting of the striking doctors and other staff of the hospital. As he was taken to Chilkalguda police station in the city, the news of his arrest spread like a wildfire across the region, bringing angry employees on to the roads.
Spontaneous dharnas and demonstrations broke out in all the districts. In Adilabad a protestor tried to self immolate by sprinkling kerosene on his body but he was saved by others.
In Hyderabad Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrashekhar Rao warned the government against “playing with fire” by arresting the employees JAC leader and demanded his immediate unconditional release.
Rao, who was watching Telangana Poru film with his family at a theatre in the city, came out of in the middle and rushed to the police station. “By arresting the leaders without any rhyme or reason this government was trying to provoke the people. The government will be responsible for the grim consequence”, he said.
