Almost two weeks into the agitation over Telangana, life has come to a virtual standstill in the 10 districts of the region and most parts of Hyderabad. The public transport remained paralysed, creating more problems for commuters on Monday morning.

The only respite in the region was with regard to the power crisis, as the coal miners decided to return to work, bringing the situation under control. Meanwhile, several pro-Telangana party leaders are likely to meet the Congress state in-charge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, to discuss the matter. The Congress MPs and MLAs are also demanding the central leadership to announce its stand on the issue. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come out in support of the Telangana demand.

“We fully support creation of state of Telangana. Our party will support it in Parliament, and we will deliver Telangana if we come to power, just as Vajpayee did as he had promised Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh,” said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. He further questioned the intention of the Congress, saying, “When you had tied up with TRS you had said the case was apt for a separate state. What happened to the promise? Why has the speaker not accepted resignations of the Congress MPs who had resigned a month ago?”
