The Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Monday said that it was the Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhara Rao, and the Telangana Political JAC Chairman, Prof. Kodandaram, were responsible for any crop damage due to power cut.
Addressing the Congress workers from Adilabad district at the Camp Office here, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, for the first time, directly targeted Mr KCR and Prof. Kodandaram. He said that the stoppage of mining of coal at Singareni Collieries has severely affected power generation at thermal power stations resulting in shortage of power. Prof Kodandaram was trying to push the State into dark with the “Sakala Janula Samme” (All People’s Strike), he charged. The State was spending Rs 12 crores per day to buy power, but still “we are forced to increase duration of power cuts from two to four hours a day in the cities, including Hyderabad, he added.
Stating that next two months were key time for cultivation, the Chief Minister urged Mr KCR and Prof. Kodandaram not to create hardship to people and farmers with the strike. Farmers would be worst victims to the power cut. He said that the power cut was affecting the crop in 70 lakh acres. The State government was making all efforts to supply required power to the farmers, he assured. Even if a single acre of crop was damaged due to power cut, it was nothing but sin of Mr KCR and Prof. Kodandaram, he maintained. Alleging that the duo was creating hardship to the people with their actions, the Chief Minister called upon the people to reverse their actions.
Turning down the allegations of the Telangana Political JAC leaders that he was wantonly not directing generation of hydel power though the reservoirs were full, the Chief Minister said that the water levels would generate power only for three or four days and the situation will be same after that.
Reminding that the Congress government had rescued APSRTC from recurring losses after returning to power, Mr Reddy felt that the APSRTC would again go into the earlier era of losses with the strike of the employees. He appealed to the Singareni Colleries’ workers and APSRTC employees to end their strike and attend to the duties keeping in mind the inconvenience being caused to the people.
Reiterating that no one was against Telangana, the Chief Minister suggested that all should maintain tolerance until the Centre takes a decision on the issue.
