Cong politicians ‘mock funeral’ held

Even as the Sakala Janula Samme was waning out slowly, protests for the formation of the state of Telangana by different organizations still continued in the district on Wednesday. The members and leaders of Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (T JAC) on the day conducted a mock funeral of Congress ministers and legislators who failed to offer resignations to their posts. As part of the programme, the JAC activists performed ‘Pinda Pradhanam’ at Hanamkonda Chowrasta.

Speaking on the occasion, the JAC leader Cheekati Raju demanded the Congress ministers quit their posts with immediate effect. He said that the Congress party and leaders who asserted their commitment to the Telangana cause must act and pressurise the All India Congress Committee (AICC) chairperson Sonia Gandhi to take a favourable decision with regard to the Telangana issue.

Likewise, the relay hunger strike taken up by the Kakatiya University Employees JAC being staged at the campus in support of the statehood issue reached second day on Wednesday. The employees still continuing their protests though they withdrew from the strike. “The protests and demonstrations in support of the Telangana issue would continue till the statehood is granted to Telangana region by the union government,” said a leader of the university employees union, S Vijaya Babu. On the other hand, the members of Wine Shops Association observed bandh in the district on the day to extend solidarity with Sakala Janula Samme. About 90 bars and restaurants, 231 wine shops of two units were closed down as part of the bandh.

Meanwhile, the Valmiki Sangham took out a massive rally through the main thoroughfares of the town demanding state of Telangana. Warangal Municipal Corporation workers conducted a mock funeral of the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy condemning his alleged anti-Telangana attitude.
