A section of Congress legislators from Telangana on Wednesday said that the education, transport and power sectors should be exempted from the on-going general strike. Seven Congress MLAs held a press conference and suggested that the Telangana employees’ Joint Action Committee should suspend the strike for one month as the Centre was actively considering the formation of a separate Telangana.

The MLAs, Mr K. Lakshma Reddy, Mr C. Muthyam Reddy, Mr P. Kista Reddy, Mrs M. Kavitha, Mr Narsi Reddy, Mr A. Mohan and Mr Raji Reddy had met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, in the morning and discussed the issue. Maintaining that they had urged the Chief Minister to work towards the formation of a separate Telangana in the same way as he had put in efforts to remove the controversial 14(F) clause from the Presidential Order a few months ago, the MLAs said they were fully committed to the Telangana cause.

The MLAs, however, urged the agitators to allow the lakhs of affected students to pursue their studies and stressed on the need for restoring coal production as power shortage was taking a toll on the crops.
