Give us Telangana, I will merge TRS with Cong – KCR

Though he has not yet announced the offer publicly, he has been discussing this proposal with all the Congress leaders. He is believed to be telling them that as TRS was founded only to achieve Telangana, it would serve its purpose when Telangana is achieved and he would no longer require that party. TRS chief is never known as a stickler to his word. How far he would stick to this word is to be seen.

KCR is a shrewd politician and knows the tact of survival. He has strengthened the party that was humiliated in the by-elections in 2008, by the then Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Of the 4 Lok Sabha seats it contested in the by-poll, TRS lost 2 and of the 16 MLA posts, TRS lost 10. KCR was shocked at the results and had even offered to quit the party president post after the humiliating defeat in its own states. That was the time when actually Congress could have taken advantage to state that the result was a referendum on Telangana and the sentiment was not strong among the people. In fact the sentiment was not strong then.

But from such despairing situation KCR built up himself and his party and in the 2010 by elections caused by resignations of 10 of his own party men and one each of BJP and TDP, the TRS won eleven seats, while the lone seat was retained by BJP. The TRS was drubbed in the 2009 elections also by YSR though the party joined the grand alliance of TDP taking almost all the opposition parties along with it.

While the performance of the Congress has become pitiable after YSR died, KCR strengthened his party and made it a formidable force. Now he says he would merge his party in Congress. How far can any one believe him? The allegation all along has been that he was trying to get as many seats in 2014 elections as possible, than achieving Telangana. If such is the case, will he stick to his word of merging TRS in Congress?
