The Central leaders seemed to have advised Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to take all possible steps to make the Telangana employees to withdraw their 26-day old Sakala Janula Samme and avoid further hardships to the people of the region.

The imperative need to ensure that the ongoing Samme is called off is understood to have been stressed by the Congress Core Commmittee members comprising Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Defence Minister A. K. Antony and AICC general secretary in charge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad to the Chief Minister, who met them individually and as a group.

According to informed sources, the core committee members were stated to have been seriously concerned about the adverse impact the Sakala Janula Samme on the administration as well as on the day-to-day lives of the people of the region. The committee members were also understood to have been very much upset over the power crisis being faced by not only AP but also neighbouring States like Karnataka and Goa due to stoppage of coal mining operations of the Singareni Collieries.

The core committee members, who were already briefed by Governor Narasimhan on the prevailing situation in the wake of the Samme’ are understood to have emphasised to the Chief Minister to initiate all steps to make the striking employees call off their agitation. As a matter of fact, while speaking to the media later, the Chief Minister disclosed that he had made several attempts to persuade the employees to call off their strike but in vain, He would again make efforts to hold talks with the striking staff to call off the strike, he explained.

During the brief period the Chief Minister interacted with the media, one could see that he was feeling very uncomfortable after his meetings and discussions with the Central leaders. His discomfiture was evident from his body language. As a matter of fact, the Chief Minister was irked by the repeated queries from the media about the possibility of President’s Rule in the State. “Why should President’s Rule be imposed? What is the criterion for such a move? he shot back.

The Chief Minister exuded confidence that the Union government would come out with an amicable solution with regard to the Telangana crisis. A decision would be taken keeping in view the overall interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh and the overall development of the State. As to when a decision would be made, he said the question should be posed to the Central leaders.
