Manipur MLAs back T struggle

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader and Warangal (West) MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhasker said that the ongoing Telangana movement was also backed by the MLAs from the state of Manipur. Speaking to the media persons here on Tuesday, he said the Manipur MLAs Doukhomang Khongsai and Thangkholun Haokip were supporting the Telangana movement. The MLA who attended the ‘Indian Leadership Summit’ at Indian School of business in Hyderabad recently met the MLAs from Manipur and distributed booklets containing information on history and alleged injustice meted out to Telangana region.

Mr Bhasker explained in detail the developments that led to the formation of state of Andhra Pradesh in amid suspicions among the leaders of Telangana on the merger of 13 Telugu speaking districts that were part of the Madras presidency and the 10 Telangana districts. “People of Telangana had doubted the sincerity and honesty of
Seemandhra people because they were well educated, exposed and well versed in litigation, manipulation and the niceties of legislation. In contrast, their counterparts in Telangana were unequal in every aspect,” the MLA explained.

He further narrated the Telangana statehood movements of 1969, and brutal suppression of it that lead to 350 deaths and the present movement in which more than 650 Telangana youth who ended their lives for the separate Telangana state. Responding to which the Manipuri MLAs stated that they were fully supporting the cause and would ask the MPs of their respective parties to raise the issue in Parliament. Mr Khongsai of Nationalist Congress Party said, “The past long history proved that the people of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh have a right to demand statehood. I am fully supporting and appreciating the legitimate demand.”

Mr Haokip of Rastriya Janata Dal said, “Three MPs of our party will cooperate with the Telangana people in their struggle,” while adding that the party MPs would raise the issue in the both the houses of the Parliament.
