With continuous pressure from Telangana activists, Ramagundam MLA Somarapu Satyanarayana has resigned from his post on Tuesday. He was an associate member of Congress. Earlier, Mr Somarapu Satyanarayana was in Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and worked as municipal chairman for Ramagundam. During 2009 elections, as TDP had entered into an alliance with the Telangana Rashta Samithi (TRS) and other parties to form `mahakootami,’ he could not get TDP ticket to contest. So, he had contested as an independent and got elected.
At the time, he said that he was elected as an MLA with the support of Singareni workers in Ramagundam and Godavarikhani. Later, he joined the Congress in the presence of the then chief minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy and continued as an associate member of the Congress. After the launch of general strike, there has been pressure on him from the TRS and Telangana activists to resign his post.
He held discussions with his supporters after he had returned from his Delhi visit and decided to resign. In the presence of Telangana activists, he had signed his resignation letter and sent it to the Speaker. He said that some other leaders were ready to quit the party. He said that Hyderabad was part of Telangana and a separate state without Hyderabad was not agreeable to the people of the region.
