Uncertainty looms large over launching of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)’s ambitious project- City Level Development Plan (CDP) at the cost of Rs 800 crore. The reason was the GHMC was forced to postpone the crucial general body meeting scheduled to be held in mid September due to the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme.

The CDP was conceived by the GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu by replacing the Total Infrastructure Plan (TIP) developed by his predecessor Sameer Sharma about three months back.

The CDP envisaged to improve civic amenties like laying cement roads, construction of fly overs, rail over bridges (ROB), junction improvements, construction of community halls, de- notifying industrial areas to free land for poor housing and improve infrastructure facilities like bus shelters and installing new street lights in the municipalities which merged with GHMC.

“The GHMC seems to be not in a position to take up the project in near future in view of the ongoing Telangana agitation. As per the schedule, GHMC should conduct a general body meeting on September 15 where all corporators and officials approve the final proposals and if needed change the plan in accordance with the suggestions from the members and officials. But, the official meeting was not held forcing the GHMC to finalize the plan”, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India.

Under the plan, it was also proposed to acquire private lands for road widening works at more than 20 areas where traffic jams are a regular feature. To acquire the land, it is mandatory to seek the approval of the general body of the corporation. Another important project to establish power sub substations was also pending.

The Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (CPDCL) already accepted to set up the stations. But the GHMC is yet to get the approval of general body to hand over the lands to the CPDCL. It is planned to establish nearly 100 sub stations at Serlingampally, Uppal, LB Nagar and Hayatnagar municipal areas where the transformers overloaded with the increasing power consumption in domestic sector.

Under the plan, GHMC decided to get Rs 600 crore loan from SBIat the rate of Rs 11.25 per cent interest.
