Once again, the talks between the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the Telangana Employees’ Unions’ JAC leaders on Saturday broke down as the latter made it clear that they would not end the strike until a clear announcement was made on formation of Telangana State by the Union government as it was their single demand.

Speaking to the media after talks with the government on Saturday at Secretariat, the employees’ leaders said that the Sakala Janula Samme would continue till the Centre announced a clear statement on Telangana. The JAC Chairman, Mr Swamy Goud said that the JAC will hold talks with the government only when it removes the conditions. He also said that the JAC had asked the ministers to mount pressure on the Centre in regard to Telangana and the Centre has to announce a road map for it. He said that the State government should take responsibility of making the Centre to announce a favorable statement in regard to Telangana.

Another leader, Mr Srinivas Goud, said that their demands were solvable. He made it clear that the JAC would intensify the movement in phases. He said that the leaders asked the ministers to withdraw the cases filed against the employees, who were participating in the Samme.

Mr Devi Prasad said that there was no truth in the rumor that the JAC would call off the Samme. He has alleged that the Congress and TDP leaders were not taking the responsibility of making the people participate in the on-going Sakala Janula Samme.

Meanwhile, the Labour Minister, Mr Danam Nagender, maintained that there was progress. Apart from Telangana, the employees put forth three main demands before the government. The first one was lifting of rule 177 which stipulates ‘no-work, no-pay’. Second demand is removal of ESMA. The third demand is withdrawal of cases registered against employees and their leaders during the Sakala Janula Samme.

Mr Danam said while the government was positive towards the first two demands, it would consult legal luminaries on withdrawal of cases against employees. On the other demands, the government would take a decision after posting the Chief Minister with the latest discussions.

When asked if the employees would be withdrawing the strike, Mr Danam said the government was hoping so. He said while people of the other regions were happy and comfortable, it was only the Telangana ‘Biddalu’ who were suffering. Particularly, students of the region, were facing hardships. He has, however, said that there was definitely progress in the situation. Stating that the main demand of the employees continued to be Telangana, he said the government was hopeful that there would be an announcement on it from the Center soon and informed the employees leaders of the same. He said the government fervently appealed to the leaders to call off the strike.
