Former MLA and YSR Congress Party leader Gone Prakash Rao has opined that separate Telangana State would be a reality if Constitutional and political crises were created in November by getting the resignations of the MPs, MLAs and MLCs of the region accepted.
Speaking at Secretariat media point on Thursday, Prakash Rao said that the Members of Parliament and State legislators from Telangana region should submit their resignations again in the Speaker’s format and get them accepted during winter session of Parliament and the State Legislature. If the Telangana elected leaders do so, the resignations would definitely be accepted by the Speaker. The resignations of 14 MPs and 68 MLAs were still pending with the Speakers of the Lok Saba and Legislative Assembly respectively. He also suggested to TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao to muster support of the leaders of four UPA constituents, Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, Mamatha Benarji and DMK leader. If Mr KCR succeeded in this, process of formation of separate Telangana State would begin. He reminded that Mr KCR had claimed that he had convinced 33 parties out of 36 UPA allied parties in favor of Telangana statehood.
“During 1969 Telangana agitation, only Telangana NGOs participated in pen down strike for 36 days, but now not only the NGOs, but also the gazetted officers, Excise employees, RTC employees, outsourcing and contract employees were also participating in the Sakala Janula Samme. The present All People’s Strike was a historic one in the country”, he maintained.
Mr Gone suspected that some inimical forces were trying to make students and employees to end strike for deriving political benefit like in 1969 agitation. The Telangana MPs and MLAs need not sacrifice their lives for Telangana as they claimed, but getting their resignations accepted was enough for formation of separate Telangana State, he added. Expressing concern over the style of functioning of the Speakers of Legislative bodies, Mr Prakash Rao said that before 1977, it was a tradition that a person elected as Speaker resigned to primary membership of the party and act independently. But, now, the Speakers were attending to the ruling party programs and participating in the get-togethers arranged by ministers. If the situation like this continues, the people would lose respect on the highest post, he regretted.
